Besides using a responsive site and following best practice to increase your site speed, it’s vital to concentrate on your mobile user experience if you want to show up well in searches. Customers should be able to navigate quickly and easily. Here are a few best practices you should pay attention to:

First and foremost, make sure that your phone number is clickable. If people want to call you, don’t make them type the number in – if you add an a link parameter to the phone number with tel: and the phone number as the target, customers can click the phone and call automatically.

Speaking of clicking, remember that users are using a fingertip or their thumb to click the elements on your site – not a mouse. Make sure your clickable elements have a large enough screen area that it’s easy to click them… if elements are too small and close together, it’s much harder for users to click the link they’re trying to click.

Make sure your menu is easy to click on, and submenu items should also be separated enough to allow for easy clicking.

Pay attention to your font size – make sure it’s large enough that it’s easily readable on mobile devices.

Pay attention to your layout – if you’re only relying on the responsive code to rearrange elements for mobile, you could end up with cluttered pages. Remember, you should be designing everything for mobile first, and then using your responsive CSS to enhance the experience for desktop.

Make sure your lead forms are short – it’s much more difficult to fill out complicated forms on mobile devices.

Make sure you’re always running A/B tests on your mobile site – it’s important to test everything related to mobile experience and site speed.
