In this video, I discuss how Nofollow backlinks can boost your SEO!

If your website doesn’t have nofollow links, you could be missing out on a massive opportunity!

We build links because they’re one of the top ranking signals for Google.

Not only that but they drive traffic to our websites, leverage social signals and build our brands.

Nofollow links can help with this. And I’m going to tell you how.

// What is a Nofollow Link?

A dofollow link is essentially a normal backlink. A nofollow link is a rel attribute: rel=”nofollow”

When this snippet of code is added to the HTML, they’re telling Google not to follow the link.

// Why Nofollow Links Have Such Bad Press

I want to take you back over 15 years to a world without nofollow tags. Black Hat SEOs were spamming every corner of the internet with links. So in 2005, Google encouraged all blog owners who had sponsored links to label them as NoFollow.

Things have changed and are thankfully clearer now.

Now Google exerts more granular control over how nofollow links are treated.

In fact, it has been treating NoFollow tags as “hints” since 2020.

Their value is now weighed depending on a range of factors such as the type of site, type of placement and relevance to the page content.

So if the top ranking websites have a decent amount of nofollow links in their backlink profile, how can they be a bad thing?

// Are nofollow links expected and therefore discarded by Google, or do nofollow links actually carry some level of link juice?

The idea of building backlinks in the first place is to make your profile as natural as possible. So you want to get a good mix of dofollow and nofollow backlinks.

All backlinks can help you drive traffic.
